Out Of The Blue

There are the friends who stay by you no matter what. Those who bother to stay in touch even if its just once a year or even just an occassional sms or email.

Then there are the ones who appear when...they are getting married. Not a word more transpired between you and her, then the next message comes when she's about to marry.

She was the beautiful bride of one of his buddies. We met on a trip to Bali and hit it off pretty well. The problem comes when 2 friends just drift apart (ok, I know its sad) and then she invites me to her wedding.

I had something on and couldn't go. Sent her an sms of well wishes...I had, no replies. Well, I guess, some things are meant to be like that. I have learnt to take many things easy.

My boxx said...

I'm not performing because I'm only meeting expectations. WTH.
It is not as if I'm not doing my work. Not as if I was insubordinate.

He doesn't even know whether I hold the post of a software engineer or a senior software engineer. What kind of boss are you?

He thinks one does not need to have finance backgrounds nor domain knowledge to do finance projects. Please use a brain.

He thinks I have to understand the business better than the users themselves. Why don't I be the user?

Well, its not as if I am not aware. There are lots of things to be done, but as it is, while waiting for the confirmation of requirements, I cannot do much. And to push the users to sign off, just isn't my job. More than that, I have zilch power to push the users! What am I? Just a small fry compared to those who have been around for 20 years.

Little men are lurking. I'm not racist. But I do think it also has got to do with his colour and the colour of the one below him who happens to be the one on top of me. They need scapegoats. The project has been delayed for 3 months (I've only been here for 2) thanks to the user who did the disappearring act.

Anyway, at the end of the day, I'm leaving this nua place. For the better.

Ginger Tea

I fell in love when I went for a SPA session in Bali...BUT I've never been quite able to find one that quite comes close....

Here's one recipe. Try it and tell me!

How to Make Ginger Tea

Warm your digestive fire and prevent colds. Hot ginger tea is an excellent winter drink. You can use it to strengthen digestion, improve circulation, or ward off colds, sore throat and the flu. It's very easy to make ginger tea.

Here are the instructions:
Hot Ginger Tea
4 cups of water
2 inch piece of fresh ginger root
Optional: honey and lemon

Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices.
Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan.
Once it is boiling, add the ginger.
Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Strain the tea.
Add honey and lemon to taste.

Note: Keep in mind that if you are making this tea to strengthen the immune system and ward off colds and flu, sweeteners are not recommended.

Stress Management

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "how heavy is this glass of water?"

Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g. The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it." "If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. "In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."

He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on." "As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden."

"So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow. Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can." "Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it!

And then he shared some ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

Good For Nothing

I am a good for nothing. Simply because people do not know me.
You don't know me, so why judge.

The only person I have to prove my worth to, is myself. Why do people seem to be trying to tell me they know me better than I know myself? I'm not AA, neither do I like LL. Why do I have to show you I can do it, before you think I can do it?

Sorry, I forgot, the world is a harsh place to be in.

People JUDGE based on their own yardsticks and benchmarks, from their own perspectives in their own shoes, not yours. I feel, misunderstood.

Carrot Egg Coffee Bean

A carrot, an egg and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked,"What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity . boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being
subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside
became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
